Ray Black's 1953 Beetle

[1953 Beetle]

According to the rego sticker on the windscreen, Ray's '53 was last registered in 1975. The odometer read 38,000 miles which was probably correct as it was still in working order.

The original 25 hp motor required minor work. An odd and disturbing rumble turned out to be an ill fitted flywheel. Gearbox was excellent and no structural or serious rust anywhere: more than likely it spent its life garaged. There were no signs og accident damage anywhere on the car It was built Oct/Nov 1953 which makes it one of the very early imports to Australia. Some '53's had a few carry over split window features in addition to the 25 hp engine such as small, circular heater outlets under the rear seats.

One of the most impressive features is the vinyl upholstery which is in original condition and required only minor repairs. It's what I call canned tuna colour and looks brand new. Its colour is Stratos Silver, one of the very early metallics. Drives like a dream.
