Ray Black's 1944 Kübelwagen

[Kubel] Ray found this vehicle in England in 1985, where it had been for at least 5 years. It had come from France and Germany before that.

Like many kubels, it had been delivered to the Army Stores Depot, Kassel, from the factory. Also in common with most, no records exist as to unit the kubel was assigned; however, the Battle of the Bulge was under way not far away, so it was probably pressed into service immediately. Vehicle parks made wonderful targets for Allied aircraft.

Ray brought the car out from England in a complete but untidy condition, and completed the restoration in Sydney in 1986. It is a very original Kubel: original body floor pan, complete Kdf engine, running gear and mechanical brakes. It also has an MG34 transit mount and rifle racks fitted. Ray says that it runs extremely well.

The attention to detail is obvious in this close-up of the rear panel.
