The "Beetles Only" Visitors Parking Lot

Our recent event celebrating the 60th birthday of the VW beetle on May 24th, 1998 was a great success. Over 4000 people attended the event, and an estimated 600 VW Beetles! We assembled all visiting Beetles in the one parking lot, with other VW types and other marques sharing space in the adjacent areas.

The weather was perfect, and the atmosphere of the day was enhanced by the fine food by Mr Schwarz and by the brass band.

Other big hits of the day included the line-up of Beetles of nearly every year from 1945 to 1986, Ivan Hodge's dual England-to-Australia Beetle, great talks by local VW experts, and the only Dannehauser & Stauss and Hebmuller cars in Australia.

Although we naturally love the chance to display our own cars, our aim was to assemble all the best local Vintage VWs. We invited owners of the best cars known to us to display their cars regardless of club affiliation. Some cars were owned by people who have never before displayed their cars or even been members of a VW club! The public seemed pleased with the result. For another review of the day, visit http://members.tripod.com/~vwcc/60th.html

For those who have never seen one, this is a Dannehauser & Stauss! On the right - the cake!

  Great Shirt!

Our thanks go to all who attended, but especially to the State Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. Richard Amery (a VW owner) who helped our President Ray Black cut the cake, and to the many VW owners from all local clubs who displayed their vehicles in the line-up.
